Dear America,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I get that some folks are uncomfortable with the prospect of a female president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And I can believe that the idea of a Black<\/em> female president makes some people even more<\/em> uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I don\u2019t understand<\/em>, but I can believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And some folks really aren\u2019t worried about her gender, or her skin color, they really disagree<\/em> with her politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And that<\/em> I can l understand a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe one of those is you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fair enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I entreat you, vote for her anyway<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even if – especially if<\/em> – you were going to \u201csit this one out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t abdicate that right and responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m not advocating for her because I think she\u2019s the best possible president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rather because I think – because I am completely convinced<\/em> – that she\u2019s the best option<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By a country mile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And because the alternative saddens and frightens me, in equal parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m saddened and frightened by the notion that the country would give power and control to a man who\u2019s clearly and consistently demonstrated<\/em> that he uses power to attack and suppress those who disagree with him\u2026 A man who has clearly and consistently demonstrated that he\u2019s a petulant, racist, xenophobic, nepotistic, misogynistic, anti-science narcissist who can’t distinguish fact from fiction\u2026 A man who routinely, and almost casually<\/em>, encourages violence against those with whom he disagrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That the country would give authority to such a man again<\/em> makes me despondent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe you don\u2019t like Kamala\u2019s politics. Or her past as a public prosecutor. Or her performance as Biden\u2019s Vice President. Or that she was part of Biden\u2019s administration at all. Or that she\u2019s a Democrat. Or her choice of running mate. Or.., something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m not saying those concerns aren\u2019t important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m saying that when forced to choose between the alternatives, I don\u2019t see a choice. I have disagreements with Harris about what\u2019s best for the country. I have a deep disagreement with Trump about what it means to be fit for leadership in a democracy, and what it takes to be a decent human being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I get that a bunch of the people reading this live in states where your vote \u201cdoesn\u2019t matter.\u201d Where your vote will be just one more vote for or against the candidate that will nearly certainly carry your state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s broken and needs fixing, make no mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But even if that\u2019s you.
