The City By The Bay
Despite WWDC being underwhelming, Dawnise and I had an awesome trip to SF.
Thursday I managed to hook up with both Wilfredo, whom I haven't seen in forever, and John who I worked with @ RN. Thursday night Dawnise and I hit the "WWDC Bash" for a short while, then caught up with Matt for a couple drinks.
Friday I skipped out on the conference and Dawnise and I wandered around the city - tons of walking, took a fair number of pictures (which I'll upload to flickr soon-ish). We snagged tickets for the 8pm performance of Spamalot, and had a light dinner at a really good Indian place (Sultan, on O'Farrell) before the show.
Spamalot was, well, when they say "lovingly ripped off from The Holy Grail" they aren't kidding. If you've seen the movie, and aren't super-keen on seeing it live and set to music, you might consider skipping it. It was amusing, but I've no need to see it again.
Saturday we did more walking around the Embarcadero (stumbled on the origin point of the naked bike ride - dis-turb-ing), and met up with Steve and Heidi for an early dinner at Scala's, just up from the hotel. The food was good, and the company was awesome. Last time we saw them Devan wasn't even a gleam in their collective eye - it's hard to believe he's already three.
We talked about heading up to Top of the Mark after parting with Steve and Heidi, but between a long day walking, an intimidating hill, and me drinking a bottle of wine (note to self - when others at the table say they'll have some, determine if "some" means "some" or "a glass" before ordering a bottle) we sat in the lobby of the W and people watched for a while before turning in.
Sunday we hit a local diner for breakfast (Dotties True Blue Cafe, super yum) checked out of the hotel, and walked up Nob Hill to the North Beach festival, then continued on to Fisherman's Warf.
We walked back through the city in time to get our bags from the hotel and catch the Muni to SFO.
Didn't manage to catch up with everyone I had wanted (Julia and Dave have a lot of nerve being on their honeymoon, sheesh), but it was a really nice couple days.
