Considering bending the rules

Ok, not "the rules," really - my rules, and not even a very serious one.

Perhaps I should explain...

When I bought my DSLR, I pretty much decided that while the body was a non-trivial investment, that what I really needed to worry about were lenses.

That meant a couple of things - first, I bought the 450D, rather than the more expensive 40D or the astronomically expensive 5D. In fact, I nearly bought the 400D and saved a couple hundred dollars to put toward lenses.

The other thing it meant was that I had no intent of putting any money into EF-S lenses. Indeed the only lenses I've bought so far - a Canon 50mm f/1.8 and a Sigma 24mm f/1.8, are both EF lenses, which I expect to carry with me one day when full-frame bodies come down into the range of a cheap frugal hobbyists' budget.

I'm planning to acquire a "carry zoom" lens shortly, and did a bit of research today. A friend of mine speaks very well of his Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6, and I've read reasonably good things about it.

Looking around at reviews, I was surprised to see generally positive reactions to Canon, Sigma and Tamrons so-called "super zoom" offerings.

The additional range would certainly be handy on occasion, so I'm considering making "one exception" to the no EF-S rule.

I am strongly considering making my one exception be the 10mm-22mm f/3.5-4.5 ef-s. The super zooms are neat, but only with ef-s are you going to get a really wide lens for cheap.
