Dinner, Redeux
I'm getting really tired of not having a kitchen - and the bad news is we're at least two weeks away from it being done.
We started our quest for dinner looking for a Mongolian BBQ place Dawnise remembered passing near the house, we didn't find it, and decided to let the GPS guide us to an alternative. I recognized "The Whistle Stop Ale House" from a previous Yelp search for breakfast places, and we (I) decided to give it a shot.
Turned out to be a mistake...
The first sign of a problem was the table. It was tacky. That sort of tacky that makes you wonder if they use the wrong cleaning product and are turning the finish to goo, or if they just don't clean the tables well.
The menu was uninspired, and Dawnise decided on a Ceasar salad and a bowl of the days special soup - a creamy tomato. I opted for the mushroom ragu. The soup was pretty bad - Dawnise sent it back after a couple tastes and after an aborted attempt to liven it up with pepper. (And stale crackers, gack).
My ragu was almost indistinguishable from elementary school paste. The mushrooms had been robbed of any flavor they once had, the cream sauce had a slightly gritty texture and no sign of either the "fresh basil" or "Marsala wine" the menu boasted of. The bit of polenta was the best part of the dish.
I'm almost disappointed enough to get a Yelp account to try and warn people off.
Blech.
