Random And Sundry...
The weather up here's been all over the place. Last weekend it was hot (for Washington - low 90's), two nights ago we had a nearly 24 hour summer storm, complete with thunder and lightning, today it's gone from overcast to partly sunny. We've taken to calling it "weather by Sybil."
As I said, it was hot last weekend - and most houses in this part of WA don't have A/C (ours doesn't), so we did the time-honored "go to the mall" trick. We had lunch at Ruby's and saw the latest Indiana Jones film. I wish I could say it was good, but aside from jumping the shark (and nuking the fridge), it pretty much rested on the strength of the previous three films (ok, the first and third, really). It had some good "Indy" moments, and I didn't walk out wanting my money and two hours back, but it just didn't quite "do it for me."
What was almost more notable than the film were the number of previews - some of which, like The Dark Knight, Hellboy II, and at least one other which I've already forgotten were actually interesting - and the of commercials.
My god, they went on forever. And they were, as a rule, utterly insipid and often downright insulting.
And I was paying for the privilege of sitting through them.
In other news, we're still stymied on the kitchen remodel front - re-thinking the design and simplifying, knocked $8500 off the last bid. It's a lot closer to reality, but still a serious more than we're happy to "just do." So we're talking to another company next week - they came out and took measurements, but like several other outfits we've talked to they want you to come into their showroom before they'll turn those measurements and specs into a bid. So we'll spend another hour or so on this mid-next week. Maybe it'll be the one that brings the price into the realm of reality.
Finally, Dawnise convinced me to subject myself to my first full body massage. We have two massage therapists who come into the office, and you can sign up for a 15 minute massage "on the house." Occasionally one or the other will also take hour appointments (not on the house). I can certainly see why people "do" massages. After an hour of someone working on my back, legs, and upper body, I was pretty mellow, and reticent to go back to work. Not something I'd do frequently, but as a reward, or occasional treat, there are worse ways to spend an hour.
Today being Independence Day, I worked a half day from home to catch up a bit from a busy week, and we're having a handful of friends over this evening for a BBQ and viewing of the local fireworks display.
Should be fun.
