I'm a Terrible Patient

I've been sick since returning from Cabo. Nothing horrible - just a cold that's sapped my energy. Started a a sore throat and head ache, moved into my sinus toward the end of last week and turned me into a human snot machine. I'm not one to take a cold lying down - which frustrates the hell out of Dawnise...

When she's sick, I make sure she does little more strenuous than sit down with a good book or three and a cup of tea. When I'm sick, and she tries the same, I resist the RnR prescription. I suddenly find it critical to do small things - things I've been ignoring for weeks, or longer.

If I'm really sick, no such resistance is forthcoming - I quaff grapefruit juice like it's going out of style and sleep it off. But I wasn't really sick. So instead I putzed around and frustrated my better half.

Friday morning a friend of ours (Hi Mary) flew in from S. Cal - Dawnise picked her up from the airport, they spent the afternoon wandering around Freemont (including a tour of the Theo factory). I got to see her briefly before she went to dinner and pub hopping with good friends of hers. We passed, on account of my aforementioned cold.

Saturday Dawnise and I did a bit of shopping, and I took a nap prior to having a small group over for light games and conversation. The group broke up around 1, and I managed to not sleep for a couple hours before waking up to head to brunch at the Pancake House.

I spent most of Sunday sleeping off my cold, which seems to be on the retreat this morning (fingers crossed). We tried watching Sideways Sunday night, but I gave up 50 minutes in when I just couldn't bring myself to give a crap about either of the main characters. If that was, as the reviews assert, "the best American film" that year, I guess I can skip the rest of 2004.

Oh, and the weather was insane - we got three or four inches of snow over the course of the weekend, and several bouts of chickpea sized hail that coated the world in white ball bearings. Not exactly typical for late April in Seattle.

This morning was bright and blue, and I almost considered getting on the bike to go to work, 'till I looked at the thermometer and saw that it was only a couple degrees above freezing. Heated seats are a goodness...

A month later, I am still in awe of the 15 kinds of frozen water that were thrust upon my head during my Seattle visit. Ridiculous.

It had better be nice by the time I come up in June. You guys are free right? We'll be in Seattle from June 7-10. Then it's off to PA.
