Low Maintenance Strikes Again

While our stuff was being moved into the new house, I noticed that the three lights on posts that flank the driveway and steps to the front door kept turning on and off. I feared there was an electrical short under the concrete, and resolved to get to the bottom of it as soon as I had a chance.

After we were moved in the, I looked around for a while for the switch. I couldn't find it, and finally asked the previous owner, who informed me that they were controlled my a photocell on the side of the house, with no switch in the circuit. "It's always been flaky," he said, explaining that for the seven years they owned the house the lights would come on during the day for no reason.

Last time we were at Lowes I bought a replacement. It was around a $10 part, and took me about 10 minutes to install. I haven't made a careful study of it, but I haven't seen those lights on during the day in the last week.

One more thing scratched off the list...
