Missives from the 6th Floor

Yesterday we packed up a bunch of cleaning supplies, and a handful of tools, and hopped the ferry to the other side where we picked up the key from our Realtor and with the help of the GPS, found our way to the house.

To our pleasant surprise the sellers, or their agent, had arranged for the place to be professionally cleaned, top to bottom, so our cleaning supplies were mostly superfluous. The one thing I did need - my shop vac - doesn't fit in the car, so the spiderwebs in the garage and basement space will survive a bit longer.

We spent the afternoon taking room dimensions and trying to figure out what furniture will go where. While the house is roughly the same size as our current (a couple hundred square feet smaller, actually), there are more rooms vs our current large open spaces - so fitting everything will be interesting.

We had dinner on that side, came home and started drawing the rooms to scale, and cutting out paper representations of our furniture (also to scale). Seems that's going to be very helpful in figuring out how to distribute the furniture into the house.

Today we're going to finish that exercise, and starting the part of moving I absolutely hate...

Today, we start packing.

Of course, in our perfect timing, Dawnise is heading out of town for a week at the end of this one - visiting folks in Southern California and making her annual pilgrimage to Halloween Haunt with Vince. So I'm guessing the actual move will happen sometime in mid-November - we'll rent our current place back 'till then.
