Bachelorhood, and New Toys

A short while ago, I dropped Dawnise off for the 5:30 sailing to Seattle. From there she's on to Seatac and catching a flight for her annual pilgrimage to Halloween Haunt with Vince. Since we didn't know if or when we might be moving, we didn't unplan or reschedule the trip - so she'll be gone 'till next weekend.

Over the next week, I'll be working, packing, and occasionally sleeping and eating.

But for the moment, I'm playing with my new ReadyNAS that arrived the other day (insofar as one can "play" with a 5"x8" shiny box with a couple hard disks in it).

My initial impressions are positive - setup was easy, mostly consisting of creating user accounts and configuring it to talk NFS for the linux boxes and SMB for the Windows ones. I copied my Flac archive over via rsync, and I'm currently copying our digital Photo archive to it the same way.

I dropped the paperwork in the mail today for the free additional 500G drive, which I'm guessing I'll need sooner than I thought if the ReadyNAS continues to live up to my expectations. Just copying my Flac to it consumed 51% of the 500G initially available.
