Weekend Recap
On Friday night, Dawnise attended the latest work-sponsored Spouse Event - a Mariner's game, viewed from a private box. There was a "party bus" from the office to the stadium, so Dawnise bussed to the ferry, walked to the next bus, bussed into Bellevue, hung out at the office for a half hour, then took the bus to the game (sheesh). I think she spent as much time in transit as she spent at the game.
Got a call from her around 10 asking if she could take the party bus back to the office and get a ride to the ferry from one of the other spouses. She fell into the hole in the ferry schedule, so I picked her up from the ferry on the island side around 1. She had a good time, which made me very happy.
Saturday we had lunch with Brad & Kat at pub near their house - the beer selection was impressive, unfortunately the service was something of a disaster and the food only ok. They (Brad & Kat) assure us that it was an anomaly - and I've no reason not to believe them. Dawnise decided - based purely on the name - that Brad should have a Cuvee Diabolique which both he and I were impressed with. I'll have to keep my eye opened for it when I'm next beer shopping. We did a bit of shopping, and that evening decided to watch My Fair Lady which we'd gotten on DVD, but hadn't yet viewed. The restoration was great - I've never seen the film in wide screen, and I realized how much is missing from the pan-and-scan version. I spent the next day with the songs from the film running through my head.
Sunday some "crafty friends" of Dawnise had a Mexican independence day party/quilt-exhibit at one of their homes in Port Angeles.
One of the artists and her husband live on 6 acres on the edge of the world - overlooking the Straight of Juan de Fuca. It was rainy and foggy, and standing in the mist, on the bluff side, listening to the surf was completely serene.
The two ladies who had created the quilts being shown are both very talented - and I got to meet some of the ladies in Dawnise's crafting group.
I was a bit out of sorts for the rest of the evening - but it wasn't 'till this morning, sitting on the ferry on my way in to work that I understood why.
It was awesome to see her among friends - and made me feel like a selfish ass for taking her away from these kindred spirits.
