A Really Good Weekend
Yesterday was Donna's birthday. Dawnise spent the morning at the Rotary auction, I hung out at C'est La Vie drinking coffee and chatting with David.
I volunteered to cook dinner, so they got some fresh salmon and veggies while in Seattle, and I made salmon with a honey spiced rum and herb glaze, garlic sauteed baby portabello mushrooms with snap peas and bell pepper, and rice. It all came out really well.
Marcia joined us for dinner, and post-dinner we went to the improv as a group. On our return Dawnise made spiced Cabernet molten chocolate cakes - which were a perfect topper to the evening. We sat and talked 'till relatively late.
This morning we slept in, then returned the ramekins we had borrowed from Marcia (complete with two molten cakes) on our way to the ferry headed for the Valve company picnic. Since we got to Seattle early (that's island time - you're either 30 minutes early or late for damn near everything) we drove up into Woodinville and looked at a house that had caught Donna's attention.
We got to BBQ, and generally relaxing.
Karen Prell recently came to work for us as an animator, and Dawnise and I got to chat with her for 20 or so minutes about her work with Henson and Pixar and life in general. She seems like a really interesting person, and I'm looking forward to the chance to get to know her better. I've never seen Dawnise star-struck before, but I gotta say, I'm right there with 'er.
Oh, and we learned that we have plans for Spring Break next year.
Sweet.
We caught the 4:40 ferry back to the island and before heading home, stopped at the pub for a light dinner and then Mora for an ice cream.
What a couple of days.
