Things I'll Miss, And Things I Won't

We met with an island realtor last night - it went pretty well, and we should be getting a Comparative Market Analysis from her tonight or tomorrow. We've got another meeting on Monday.

So moving seems to be, well, moving.

We leave Friday morning for my brother's graduation from university. We have an 8 am flight out of SEATAC, for which we'll need to be on the 5:20am boat.

That sucks.

It made me think about the things I'll not miss - like being a half-hour early, or late, for anything and everything on the Seattle side.

Like being able to count the good restaurants around us on our fingers, with fingers left over. When the place we want to go is too busy, we typically just turn 'round and go home. There are more places to eat in walking distance of my office than there are in a 20 minute radius of our house.

Like having people not come to parties 'cause they don't wanna deal with the ferry. We used to throw parties all the time. "Hey, it's Tuesday - let's have a party this weekend." Since living in the house, we've thrown 1.5 parties a year, and about 1/3 of those invited actually show up. Oh, and for the record - having commuted to the ferry from the east side for a year, I can't really blame east-siders - it's a pain in the arse.

But I'll miss the Pub. The food is good, the atmosphere comfortable, and it's all local beers. And C'est La Vie - we've really enjoyed breakfasts there - and hopefully we'll stay in touch with David.

I'll miss the farmers market during the spring and summer - there's a baker there who makes really good scones and corn cake.

I'll miss the Improv. Sure, we could come back once a month, but I have this feeling we probably won't.

I'll really miss being so close to so much natural beauty. In hindsight, we haven't gone hiking nearly as much as we should have, given where we live.

I'll miss being close to the (precious few) friends we have, or have made, on this side. Our neighbors - especially the Bromleys, have been amazing. An incredible contrast from living in the same house in California and only meeting our neighbors as we were moving out.
