Milestones
We flew out early (which required leaving the house really early) Friday morning to Sacramento for my little brother's graduation from Chico State on Saturday. My folks had arrived Thursday, and my sister drove up and joined us in time for dinner Friday afternoon.
We has some good food, were lucky to have good weather, and had a good time.
And best of all, I got to see my brother graduate. Color me really proud.
Chico seemed like a reasonable facsimile of a college town - bars liberally dotting the landscape, a couple used bookstores - one of which kept some of my money and made my bag a bit heavier - restaurants, coffee places and other useful amenities. The bits campus we saw were nice - lots of trees, comfortable feel, sorta like what I liked about UCR.
The ceremony was loonnggg, but the student speaker was quite good - his constructs and cadence reminding me a lot of William Gibsons early writing (he suggested in his speech that he was an English lit major, so that may not have been a natural coincidence).
We had a 9am flight out of Sacramento this morning, so we left Oroville at 6, dropped off the rental car, got checked in (and upgraded to first when it turned out to be the easiest way to get two seats together on an oversold flight), grabbed some really mediocre food (note to self - Gordon Biersch for breakfast == Meh), and had an uneventful flight home.
We got to the ferry just in time to miss the 11:25 (of course) so were on the next one and home a bit after 1. In a couple hours we've gotta go retrieve Junior from the vet, where he spent the weekend after our primary and secondary cat-care-givers turned out to be unavailable.

Congrats to your brother. A graduation in the family is always great. How many years before your sister moves the tassel to the other side of the hat?
