The Seagulls Don't Need Micky-D's

I love taking the ferry to and from work in the summer. In the morning I sit inside, watch the mist rise over the sound and the sun finally poke through, and on the way home I sit on the sun deck, enjoying the (what else) sun and fresh air.

That is, unless the tourists take over.

See, there's always some idiot tourist who thinks it's "cool" to feed the seagulls their french fries. Or soft pretzels, or whatever they happen to be eating.

So they get a big crowd of 'gulls swooping and jinxing over the deck, snatching bits of food from the tourists outstretched fingers. When the tourist is female, or young, this is often accompanied by shrieks from the human, which gets the 'gulls even more jittery and excited.

Aside from the fact that french fries are undoubtedly not part of a balanced seagull diet - the bigger problem is what goes up - as fries - must come down - as seagull shit.

So as soon as the birds start circling, sensible commuters head for cover.

I've only seen a tourist get theirs once. And I'm only slightly ashamed to say I laughed hard...

Hey, better them than me.
