Busy Weekend
Saturday Dawnise and I decided to head into Seattle and spend some time at the Seattle Center, with the dual purpose of taking in the Pacific Northwest Quiltfest and the Game On! exhibit at the Pacific Science Center.
The quilt show was pretty spectacular - lots of stunning works being displayed. Game On was cool too - a hands-on history of Video Games from Pong to Present (hands on == you could play all the games being displayed). They even had an Amiga 500 running Lemmings. Almost inspired me to get Dawnise's out of the closet and see if I could hook it up to the 50" plasma. Pixels as big as your head :)
Aside from a great trip down Video Game history (original poster art from Dungeon Master, Hitchhikers Guide running on an original PC, the list goes on and on) the sound exhibit was pretty cool, too. Video-game sound from the Z80 to present. Particularly cool was the soundtrack to LED Storm from both the Atari ST and Amiga versions for comparison. Really showed how the custom chips in the Amiga put it light years ahead of it's contemporaries.
Sunday afternoon was the company picnic at a park on lake Sammamish. We got there around 1:30. Absent were all the normal goofy "team building" games - instead they had an inflatable pool with an industrial bubble machine for the kids, a padded cudgel setup for tweens and adults, and food by Stans BBQ.
We hung out at the picnic 'til around 4:00, when we had to leave for Fabrice's place to change for the weding that afternoon.
Juan and Rachel were married at 6pm at the Seattle Arboretum. The wedding was brief (always good), and the reception (catered by Casuelitas) well attended. It was a Disney Online/Checkout/RealNetworks reunion - even Grant Gordon - international man of mystery made a surprise appearance. Grant - if you're reading this - it was great to see you, even if only briefly.
The reception mostly wound down around 10 - and we caught a lift back to Fabrice's place, grabbed our stuff, and squeaked on the 10:40 ferry, in bed by midnight.
Good times.
