Weekend Recap

Executive Summary: Busy, busy, busy.

Saturday morning we caught a mid-morning boat into Seattle and headed for the 4th Ave Costco to return the camera and pick up an appetizer to bring to our ultimate destination. From there, we hit 5 N to Snohomish (which I found very reminiscent of the California Central Valley) to join Scott and Amanda (and Zoe, and Will) for their "last trip across the border before they move" hosted by some friends.

We hung out, chatted, ate, drank, and basically enjoyed ourselves. I stepped out in the middle of the party to call my dad and wish him a happy birthday, and all was basically good with the world.

Sunday morning we were up and out of the house around 8 headed for the Lavender Festival in Sequim. Got there around 9:30, wandered the street fair as the vendors were opening for the day, and found the quilt show being held in the local Middle School (they clearly didn't want people to find it - it was pretty well hidden).

After perusing the show, we did another loop around the street fair - by now in full swing - and then hopped back in the car (have I mentioned that the weather has been absolutely beautiful of late, and I'm really enjoying the rag-top?) and drove to a couple of the lavender farms participating in the festival. The atmosphere was nice even if none of the farms had anything spectacular going on (and really, how much lavender can you look at before it becomes just a sea of smelly purple plant). We did learn how "essential oils" are distilled - and I'm rather surprised to say that it's not just scented vegetable oil ;)

We got home a bit earlier than expected, and were joined for dinner by Vince & Donna (& Ari), who had driven up over the weekend ostensibly to take care of some real-estate related paperwork (I suspect Fedex would have been faster and cheaper, but then we'd have missed dinner). Having been out in the great outdoors all day Dawnise and I were both a bit sun-soaked and generally wiped, but dinner was great and we sat up and chatted 'till a bit after 10 before I hit the sack.
