We arrived in plenty of time - got into the checkin line for Air New Zealand. Got to the front of the line and discovered that my Visa hadn't gone through. No big deal - the guy issued me one on the spot - all electronic. Took him about 50 seconds. For this we paid the travel agent $20. Geesh.
The guy checking us in didn't believe we only had the two carry on bags -- he finally got it, and we were checked in and ready to wait for our flight.
Went through the security checkpoint, wandered into the gate lounge and sat, and sat, and sat - finally they started boarding the plane.
Air New Zealand rocks! Their economy class had seats nearly as big as United's domestic business class - lumbar supports, footrests, the whole bit. The seats could be a little wider, and have a bit more room between rows, but all in all, outstanding.
We stowed our gear and settled in for a 14 hour flight across the ocean.
They served dinner -- something very edible, drinks, snacks, and - just before our scheduled arrival in Sydney, breakfast (also good). All the wines were Australian (surprise, surprise).
We crossed the dateline on the way over,
so there was no Wednesday - we jumped straight into Thursday...
